IAR: Opportunity for independent dance artists to utilise our space.

In 2010 Dancenorth are encouraging independent choreographers to approach the Artistic Director under our new 'Independent Artist in Residence' programme for use of studio space for the creation of new work. Dancenorth's home allows a number of projects to be happening at the same time and therefore we are able to develop a programme to support emerging Australian choreographers.
Choreographers would be provided with complimentary studio use and be able to participate in daily company class. Each choreographer would be required to independently fund their time in Townsville as well as bring with them their own dancers if applicable. Dancenorth will act as a support umbrella for these artist whilst they are resident in Townsville.

This opportunity will provide the invited choreographers with an initial development period for the creation of movement material and artistic content. At the end of each guest choreographer's development period Dancenorth will present an informal studio showing of their work made in Townsville. This gives the choreographer an opportunity to present their work in a theatre setting without the financial pressure of mounting an entire season.
