Grace - The Exhibition

A new relationship between the North Queensland Cowboys and Dancenorth is set to explore the unique link between art and sport. Grace is a photographic exhibition by Dancenorth  that showcases the grace and beauty of rugby league, whilst at the same time re-iterating the physicality and power of dance.

Raewyn states “Although the connection between dance and rugby league seems unusual, I believe the relationship is clear. I love rugby league and I love dance, and this project is about bringing these two passions together. When I watch rugby league, I see more than teams winning or losing, kicking penalties or scoring tries.

I see an athletic dance played out on a big scale. Rugby league is played with such power, style, skill and passion, backed up with fluid physical movements. And for me personally, dance is just the same. The sort of dance that I like, and that I like to make is physical and gutsy, yet with the dancer providing a personal refinement and poise”.

Working with the Cowboys and using a different art form such as photography allows Dancenorth to connect with the community on a different level and encourages more people to experience the arts.

Grace - The Exhibition will be open for viewing from Monday March 22 to April 16 at Dancenorth, Cnr of Walker and Stanley Sts, Townsville CBD. Entry is free.
