Sweatshops

Two levels of workshops are currently offered by Dancenorth to groups, schools and students. Dancenorth’s Artistic Director, Gavin Webber, has taught at numerous Australian Universities, including the Queensland University of Technology for three years, and is an annual member of the teaching staff at The Vienna International Dance Festival. His workshops include a focus on release technique and floor work and discuss the function of movement from both a physical and theatrical purpose.

Introduction to Dancenorth technique

In a special introductory workshop, the dancers from Dancenorth introduce floor and release techniques that are indicative of the company’s style. The differences and parallels of the style to other movement techniques are explored and discussed. A DVD of the company’s work is also made available to further the student’s understanding of the company’s work. Some exposure to contemporary dance technique will be expected.

Masterclass

This master class is conducted by Artistic Director, Gavin Webber. It explores movement techniques that are distinctive to the new direction of the company. The class will focus on floor work and release and explore ideas of the theatricality and the functionality of movement. A high level of movement skill and/or contemporary dance technique will be required.
