Under Construction - Lighting the Dark

30 May

Dancenorth Theatre

Talks & Conversations

Step behind the scenes with Dancenorth as we prepare to stage an Australian-first for championing inclusivity in the Arts with our brand new work, Lighting the Dark.
Lighting the Dark is drawn from the rich imagination and deeply compassionate heart of Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and choreographer living with Down Syndrome. Joining forces with Dancenorth and some of Australia’s leading creative designers, Chris will be the first-ever artist living with Down Syndrome to direct a full-length work for a mainstream dance company.
Our Under Construction event will give you the chance to peek behind the curtain on this groundbreaking collaboration, as our artists come together to discuss the development of Lighting the Dark.
Join us for a frank and fearless discussion about the project, including:
+ Embracing inclusivity, diversity and collaboration in the creative space
+ Exploring and honing big ideas to curate something both epic and cohesive; and
+ Navigating health, safety and wellbeing against a hard deadline.
This will be a facilitated discussion led largely by enquiries from you, our guests. Curious minds are most welcome and we are eager to share our experiences as we work to make a more inclusive community for everyone.
Lighting the Dark’s Preview Season will be held in Townsville on 14 + 15 June 2024. For tickets to the finished show, please visit TicketShop: https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au/ticketshop/events/lighting-the-dark
