Sabine Crompton-Ward
Ensemble
Sabine spent her childhood dancing in Nipaluna/Hobart. In 2019 and 2020, she completed an Advanced Diploma of Dance as a part of Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year. Under the mentorship of Linda Gamblin and Omer Backley-Astrachan, Sabine learned from and performed works by an incredible variety of dance artists and choreographers including Leah Marojević, Rafael Bonachela, Vicki Van Hout, Sue Healey, Holly Doyle, Idan Cohen and Jessica Goodfellow. In January 2020, she performed in Stephanie Lake’s Colossus as a part of Sydney Festival.
In December 2020, Sabine joined Sydney Dance Company as a trainee ensemble member. During 2021, under the guidance of rehearsal staff Charmene Yap and Richard Cilli, she performed in the premiere season of Rafael Bonachela’s Impermanence, and the company’s Australian regional tour. In December 2021, Sabine performed in Jasmin Sheppard’s Given Unto Thee and Lilian Steiner’s Springtime Again as part of Sydney Dance Company’s New Breed season. In 2023, Sabine created her first short solo, Is that the horizon?, as a part of Dancenorth’s Tomorrow Makers 6.
Sabine finds herself in the wonderful and curious years of her early career as an artist, and feels delighted and enlivened by the creative possibilities that surround her every day as a member of the Dancenorth Ensemble in Gurambilbarra.
