Trash Craft Workshops with Damian Meredith

13 May

Dancenorth Australia

Experiences

These Trash Craft Workshops invite members of the community of all-ages to get creative with salvaged, pre-loved, and repurposed materials—turning them into odd objects, strange sculptures, and abstract artefacts that will help bring life to TRASHWORLD, a new work by Damian Meredith, presented as part of Tomorrow Makers 7.
These workshops invite participants into an open and experimental art-making process where there’s no right or wrong. It’s all about creativity, collaboration, and having fun along the way.
Each workshop explores a different creative approach—all working toward the creation of the set design for Damian’s work. Participants are welcome to join one, some or all four sessions.
SESSION DETAILS
WORKSHOP 1: MAKE
The first session focuses on building and combining materials. Participants will explore techniques such as tying, gluing, bending, wrapping, and stapling to construct objects, structures, and foundational bases.
WORKSHOP 2: MAKE AND FILL
This session introduces the idea of filling. This involves layering, connecting, covering, and smoothing—adding volume, texture and body to the pieces. The focus is on expanding individual works into a collaborative landscape.
WORKSHOP 3: FILL AND SPLASH
This session introduces the use, or splash, of colour. Using paints, crayons, pastels, and more, to add vibrancy to the evolving creation.
WORKSHOP 4: THE FINAL SPLASH
The final session focuses on finishing touches. Participants will refine, decorate, and embellish the work. Embracing playfulness and imperfection, this session celebrates creative chaos—culminating in a bold, collaborative, and delightfully messy masterpiece that brings TRASHWORLD to life.
