The Whole Thing

regional gravitation
The Whole Thing funds independent Artists to create new Australian works from the seed of an idea through to presentation.
ABOUT
A unique opportunity for independent Artists to participate in valuable creative exchange at Dancenorth’s home base in Gurambilbarra and Thul Garrie Waja (Townsville).

The Whole Thing does exactly what it says on the box – fund independent Artists to create new Australian work, from the seed of an idea through to presentation. These works will be created in Gurambilbarra and Thul Garrie Waja (Townsville), providing opportunities for reciprocal creative exchange between the Dancenorth Ensemble/staff and guest artists. Production, marketing and producing support will be provided, essentially gifting independent Artists the opportunity to work within the supportive structure of a full-time company.

The creative development will take place over a three year period, comprising a three-week seed development (year one), a three-week creative development (year two), and a minimum of six-weeks final pre-production leading into the premiere season (year three). Co-commissioning festivals and presenters will be invited to follow the creative journey in years one and two, with the intention being to secure multiple co-investment partners for the final pre-production and premiere season. Some of these works will be solos, and some may feature the Dancenorth Ensemble. Commissioning offers will be made via a selection process with a focus on First Nations and regionally based Artists.
