Helen Herbertson
Helen began crafting work in the freelance environment of the 80’s with Tasdance, Dance North, Australian Dance Theatre, One Extra Company, 2Dance Plus, Jolt, and Outlet Dance. She has been influential in the evolution of seminal organisations, shaping the development of dance and performing arts in Australia.
Helen has had an illustrious career, serving as Artistic Associate at Qld Modern & Contemporary Dance Company (1970-1974), Foundation Member of Dance Action Network SA (1984-1988), Artistic Director at Danceworks (1989-1997), Foundation Member of Moriarty’s Project Inc (2000-2018), Artistic Director at Dancehouse (2001-2003), Senior Lecturer of Postgraduate and Honours Coursework & Research programs at VCA Dance, University of of Melbourne (2005-2020), and is currently the Co-Director of hhprojects.
Her creative work has received multiple nominations and awards, and has presented in traditional theatrical settings, intimate non-theatre venues, large-scale outdoor sites, drama and opera performances, educational projects, festivals and touring programs.
Most recently, Helen has been working, collaborating, touring and performing with a range of artists like Tracks Dance, Lucy Guerin, Matthais Shack-Arnott, Michelle Heaven, Ben Cobham and John Salisbury, and is continuing to develop her own work through a residency at Dance Cork Firkin Crane in Ireland.
